FOLLIES IN NY

Distributed Educational Campus Network, in partnership with David Kagawa

Upper East River, New York

Given the premise to provide an educational distributed campus along the East River, the project takes the strategy of small urban interventions throughout sites of industry, parks, and water, inspired by Stan Allen’s points and lines. Elements are dispersed within three selected sites — Randall’s Island/Astoria, Flushing Bay, and Hunts Point/Soundview — and connected by new infrastructure and surface applications, emphasizing an educational model of learning from where you are.

The project is a kit-of-parts of a taxonomy of elements and surfaces that can be combined in a number of methods, of which, over time, grows into a distributed network of access, public space and architecture.
